Last Will and Testament of James Oldham
I James Oldham, Senior, of the county of Rush in the State of Indiana do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.
First I direct that my body be decently interred, and that any funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my Estate and situation in life. And as to what worldly Estate it has pleased God to entrust me with I dispose of the same in the following manner to wit. I direct first that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first monies that shall come to the hands of my Executor from any portion of Estate real or personal. I also direct that each of my Daughters that are unmarried namely Deborah, Lavina and Lucinda have two hundred dollars in money an ordinary bed and bedding, a common side saddle and a cow. I also direct that each of my Sons that are unmarried to wit. Aaron, Amos and Noah have Two hundred dollars in money an ordinary horse and saddle,. The girls to get their money and property at the age of Nineteen, The boys to get their at the age of Twenty. I also. I also direct that my two grand daughters Sarah and Mary Walker, daughters of Meradith Walker and Elizabeth Walker formerly Elizabeth Oldham have sixty two dollars, when they arrive at the age of Nineteen years. Should neither of them live to that age, then the balance of my legal heirs are to have share and share alike. I further direct that after the foregoing requests in this will is fully complied with, that my Wife have during her natural life should she remain my widow, all my property both real and personal be sold by my Executor for the best price and the proceeds thereof be divided and shared alike between my legal heirs. And I hereby make and ordain my worthy son & friend Samuel Oldham Executor of this my last Will and testament.

In 1826, they moved to Fayette County, Indiana from Sevier County, Tennessee. The remained about one year, then moved to Center Township, Rush County, Indiana. They were the first Oldhams to reside in Rush Co, where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Appears in many court records in Rush County, Indiana. Took in two minor heirs of Thomas Hollingshead, husband of James' daughter Leah, in 1848.
Received final settlement of father-in-law's estate, purchased property of Thomas Hollingshead Aug 1849; guardian of Mary 8, Laney abt 6, and James Hollingshead, minor heirs of Thomas Hollingshead Aug 13, 1849.
Book #9, pg 400: James Oldham - the grandfather - appointed guardian Feb 10, 1845 of Polly Ann Oldham c. 4 mo of age and infant child of Stephen Oldham dec. James Resigns Jan 1853 and is replaced by Lewis J. Newhouse.
Rush County History - James and Mary Fancher Oldham were members of the Little Blue River Baptist Church; James was a charter member. The land near the church for the Blue River Cemetery in Center Township, where he is buried along with many of his sixteen children, was donated by James. Mary lived to see all her children married and living in homes of their own, except David, who died when he was two years and nine months old.
Tombstone inscription: Died age 58 years, 5 months, 16 days.
