  Notes	Courtesy of Reginald Day: William and Mercy Jane Colclazier must of had a stormy marriage. After 12 children they divorced in 1879. She got the farm and three kids, Isabel, Tacy and Samuel, all small ones. Since she did not have anyone to help her on the farm she went to Wichita, Kansas with the 3 children. She later sold the farm in Iowa to someone in Kansas. She got $800.00 for it. Wm. only paid 1.25 an acre or $50 for the farm. Then finding it hard to support 3 children with no skills she married a James Barrett - known among her children as Old man Barrett. I didn't know he had any other name until I came across the 1900 census. They lived with my parents at that time. Grandma Mercy lived with Sam and Mollie for 15 years - she was so tough to get along with that none of her daughters would tolerate her. My mother was a saint. I can remember them quilting together, putting up fruit and vegetables together, and I never knew of any disturbances. Until - my mother had a stroke, late in life, and she really talked. She had a lot of resentments that all thru the years she kept to herself. Since grandma lived with us all her children, grandchildren, cousins, etc., when they were in trouble came to live with us for a spell. I can remember that there was always someone there who needed help. When my father needed help later in life there wasn't a one who could remember him! Such is life! William, my grandfather, after the divorce took Wm. Rily and his family and went to Scandia, Kansas. That is where his sister, Juliana Doak, had moved. This must of been about 1880 for I saw a census where he was listed. He lived there the rest of his life and was buried there. When he died my father wanted to go to the funeral but my grandmother sternly refused to let him go. Her divorce must of been a bitter one. I understand he was a womanizer - he kept Mercy pregnant all those years and down on the farm. She was only 17 when they married and she was pregnant the entire time. My mother told me grandma would get so big that if a broom fell on the floor she couldn't raise her foot to step over it. Wm never married again. He lived with Riley and started with a sod house. He later gave all he had to Riley to take care of him the rest of his life. Riley paid the taxes and got the property. He probably deserved it. I remember visiting Arthur and Florence Colclazier - Riley's two children. Arthur lived on the farm after Riley died. Arthur finally went to California and died there. I corresponded with Arthur's daughter who lives in California for a while. Aaron as will as John's descendants all live in and around Oklahoma. I know some of them.
