Oldham, Vista, California 1996 Fact #2 - 1874 Raised by Allen & Alice Pearcy, Ballard County, Kentucky Fact #3 - Abt 1880 moved to Obedia Oldham's farm When William was born, Mr. Tom rearranged his name to Thompson William to "Avoid Confusion:" He was known as "TW" or "Mr Tom" to family and neighbors. TW was taciturn and withdrawn. In his later years, he developed a palsey (much evident in his son Hick Oldham) that made shaving or drinking almost impossible. He always had a "Chew" going. According to Aunt Henrietta, TW appeared at the doorstep of her grand father, Obediah Oldham, at the age of about 15 with a jar of coins and was raised by Grandma Lay and OB. He married his 3rd cousin, Jodie and built a log cabin along "m"ied, Henry was raised by her grandmother Lay. Henrietta remembers that TW could neither read nor write, and never spoke to Henry about his childhood. She remembers the large Oldham home across the river in Illinois that had belonged to her grandfather John, But it has since burned down. TW loved baseball (the Cardinals) and hated chocolate (damned black cake! he used to say.) He beat his hogs because they were ill-mannered, as I recall on our visits.
