      William "Ted" Johnson, 69, of Indianapolis, died Feb. 20, 2009, at 6:20 p.m. EST at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel, Ind.

      He was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Indianapolis, to William C. and Marilyn (Young) Johnson.

      Mr. Johnson was a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church in Indianapolis, and the American Legion in Speedway, Ind. He graduated from Dover High School in 1958. He served in the Army National Guard from 1961-1967. He worked at Exectone Phone Co., Indianapolis and Master Abrasives in Indianapolis and La Porte. He retired from American General Insurance Co.. in 1994 due to health. His hobbies included woodworking and aviation. He loved live entertainment and was an avid reader and loved his family.

      On May 27, 1989, in Indianapolis, he married Patricia Andersen, who survives.

      Also surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Tolle and Megan Miedema, both of Indianapolis; two sons, Bill Johnson of Louisville, Ky., and Jack Johnson of Carmel; two sisters, Judy Ryden and Susie Bortz, both of La Porte.

      The funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. EST at Chapel Rock Christian Church, Indianapolis, with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. Military graveside services will be at 4 p.m. EST at Dover Cemetery, Dover, Ind.

      Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Rock Christian Church, 2020 N. Girl School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46214.

      Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, Lebanon, Ind.

      William "Ted" Johnson

      Mr. William "Ted" Johnson, 69, of Indianapolis, formerly of Boone County, died Feb. 20, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel.

      He was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Indianapolis, to the late William C. (father was William Herman) and Marilyn (Young) Johnson. He graduated from Dover High School in 1958.

      Mr. Johnson served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1967. He worked at Executone Phone Company in Indianapolis and at Master Abrasives in Indianapolis and La Porte. He then worked for the American General Insurance Company, retiring in 1994 due to health reasons.

      He married Patricia Andersen on May 27, 1989, in Indianapolis. She survives.

      Mr. Johnson was a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church in Indianapolis. He also was a member of the American Legion in Speedway.

      His hobbies included woodworking and aviation. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed live entertainment. He loved his family.

      Survivors include his wife; sons, Bill Johnson of Louisville, Ky., and Jack Johnson of Carmel; daughters, Stephanie Tolle and Megan Miedema, both of Indianapolis; sisters, Judy Ryden and Susie Bortz, both of La Porte; and nine grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Rock Christian Church, 2020 N. Girls School Road, Indianapolis, with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. Graveside military rites will take place at 4 p.m. at Dover Cemetery, 955 N. Ind. 75, Lebanon.

      There will be no visitation.

      Ted was the oldest of three children. His sisters are Judy Ryden and Karen Bortz.

      He lived with his grandparents on their family farm for some time during his youth. He was a talented singer and began participating at an early age in competitions.

      Ted graduated from Dover High School, Dover Indiana. He immediately went to work in his grandfather's business, Ted Johnson Construction Company. He worked there until he joined the National Guard. He served from 1967-1971. He then worked at Master Abrasives and sold grinding wheel equipment until 1986. He later received his insurance license and worked for AMerican General until 1996.

      Ted always enjoyed electronics and playing with the latest "gadgets".

      Ted has four children from a previous marriage, Bill, Stephanie, Jack and Megan. He married Pat Besel in 1989.

      Corrections:

      Ted was in the National Guard from 1960-1967. He worked for his cousin A. C. Ike Woods at Executone from 1966 to about 1975. He then worked for a Sony Dealer, selling the first Sony Beta Video Recorders. He was active in the Lawrence Jaycees during this time. He began working for Master Abrasives in 1977, moving the family to LaPorte, Indiana. The family returned to Indianapolis in 1981 and continued to work for Master Abrasives. The abrasives company closed in 1986.
