Robert D. Oldham was born in Somerville County, Texas to John Oliver and Bettie Leona Allen Oldham, July 13, 1901. They lived on the Clark Oldham place in Hurndon Valley or Goldsmith Valley. In 1906 the family moved to New Mexico -- to a homestead of 160 acres.
In 1910 they moved to Chillicothe, Texas. I remember two things that happened on our trip from New Mexico to Texas. We traveled in a covered wagon. The wheels had metal tire rims. One of these came off and Dad had to build a big fire to get it back on the wheel. The other was the effect the Gip drinking water had on all of us.
Being raised in a Christian home and having a wonderful Christian mother, in 1912 I met Christ and joined the Baptist Church at Center Point, some five miles northeast of Chillicothe, Texas, and was baptized in Wonder Creek close to the Oa
In 1916 we moved to Shallowater, Texas and then to Childress Texas in 1920. At Shalllowater we lived on a farm. In Childress we lived in town. I worked with John Williams and A. Broome as a carpenter for several years. In 1924, I took....

April 3, 1926 I was married to Olivia Fain at her home in the Needwood Community, Collingworth County, by Rev. Lem Hodges. Olivia was born at this home September 22, 1902.
We lived in Childress the first two years of our married life. We were both active in B.Y. P . U. (Baptist Young Peoples Union) work. I served as Associational president for two years. We then moved to Wellington. Our first child, Sybil was born in Wellington
I worked in Gallup, New Mexico in 1937.
May 27, 1939 Joy Jeanette was born in Wellington.
August 16, 1941 we moved to Canyon, Texas--bought a home at 1301 4th Avenue. Bob was working with the NYA on the College buildings. In February 1942 Olivia started to work in the Book Store at West Texas State as bookkeeper and assistant
While in Wellington, we worked with Intermediates in Sunday School, in charge of one of the Intermediate Departments. In Canyon we worked in the Nursery and I had the toddler group.
In 1943 Bob worked at Pantx Ordinance Plant loading ammunition. In 1945 he went to Coyne Electric School in Chicago and then back to Pantex as an electrician.
In 1946, I went back to brick work. In 1950 I decided to try my hand at contracting, working in and out of Hereford. Did 6 churches, 12 commercials and 2 dozen or more residents. I also ran work for various contractors.
In the early 1960's I went back to Coyne for a refresher Motor Course and then worked in an Electric Motor Shop in Hereford for a brief time but it did not pan out so I picked up my brick trowel again.
During the Fall Semester of 1965 I took an Art Course in Oil Painting at West Texas State.
In January 1968 arthritis hit me in both shoulders. I now have a carpenter shop in the back yard and do furniture repair and little odd jobs; keep the yard and flowers.
Looking back over my growing up years, it seems as if I thought that the world owed me something, but now that I am older I know that I owe the world something; that I should make it a better place for those who come after me, by walking to help someone in need.
I get quite a kick out of "just pushing" and watching "our kids" (we have tried to help 15 in school) develop into real men and women. In the 42 years of our married life we have lived alone only five months, so you see life has not been
