      Death of Jacob Meyers

Jacob Meyers died Tuesday, January 13th, at the home of his daughter, Mr s. Herbert Garrett, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 81 years old.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyers had gone to Tulsa, early last fall, where they were spending the winter. On Sunday, January 11th, he had a stroke of apoplexy, and he did not recover from its effects.

For a number of years he has been a resident of Madison county, living for a while near Earlham, and again on a farm near Peru. He moved from the farm, west of town to Winterset, where he has resided for the past twenty years.

Mr. Myers was employed at the Madison County State Bank, as janitor for ten years and gave this up a few years ago, due to ill health.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Garrett, Tulsa Oklahoma; Mrs. Leslie Oldham, of near Earlham; three sons, Roy of Portland, Oregon; Carl, and Charles, of North Dakota. The body will arrive Thursday via Peru and the funeral services will be conducted Friday at Fairview.

A more complete account of his life will appear in the mortuary columns next week.

      MORTUARY

      Jacob Myers

Jacob Myers, son of Christopher and Ida Myers, was born in Ohio, November 8th, 1849.

Both of his parents died when he was still a baby, and he made his home with an uncle. They soon came to Appanoose County, Iowa, to make their home, where he was a little later taken into the home of Christopher Foglesong and with them came to Madison County, Iowa, when 13 years old. They located in the Fairview neighborhood where he worked on the farm, and attended country school when he could.

He was married to Candace Fee January 1st, 1874, and to this union 7 children were born, one died in infancy and their son, Glenn died at the age of 12. The other children are Charles of Ambrose, North Dakota, Roy of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. L. A. Oldham of Madison County, Iowa, Carl of California, and Mrs. Gladys Garrett of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After their marriage they lived on the farm for more than 25 years most of that time in the Fairview neighborhood. They moved to Winterset, which has since been their home, more than 25 years ago.

He had prospered on the farm and moved to town to retire but he was too energetic of nature to quit work and he was always busy. He became custodian of the Madison County State Bank Building and was a faithful employee for 10 years, until 4 years ago when he gave up the work because of failing health.

Three months ago he and Mrs. Myers went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to spend the winter with their daughter, Mrs. Garrett. While there he was active until he had a fall on January 2nd, which confined him to the house and on January 11th, he had a stroke of apoplexy and passed way on January 13th, at the age of 81 years.

His has been a life of thrift and industry. No one was ever more faithful to his work than he. In his home he was kind and thoughtful, and everywhere he was loved for his cheerful friendliness and his faithfulness to every task.

He leaves besides his wife and children, 11 grand-children, 10 great grand-children and many friends.
