      Glasow, Elizabeth (Marriage - 19 March 1926)

      Friday forenoon, March 19, at 10:30 o'clock, Mr. John Strangfeld and Miss Elizabeth Glasow were quietly married at the Lutheran parsonage at Neillsville, Rev. Brandt uniting them in wedlock.

      The bride was attended by her youngest sister, Miss Erna. The groom's attendant was Mr. LaFayette Oldham, a friend of the couple.

      The bride was attired in a sand colored satin, faced with flat crepe, finished with gold lace. She carried a shower bouquet of Bessie Brown roses a nd locust. The bridesmaid wore a deep tan flat crepe with white carnations.

      The groom and his attendant wore the conventional blue.

      After the ceremony they visited the Thayer Studio, and then returned to their new home in Pine Valley.

      The bride is the second daughter of Mr and Mrs. Fred Glasow of the town of Weston. She is a graduate of Neillsville High School in the class of 1924. Since her graduation she has been a successful teacher at the Blackberry school in Tioga.

      The groom, a son of Mr and Mrs. Lucas Strangfeld of the town of Weston, is a young farmer of fine personalities. The newlyweds will reside on the Chas. Blocke farm in the town of Pine Valley, which the groom has rented. The bride will continue her school work until the summer vacation.

      At eight o?clock in the evening music was furnished by the North Pine Vall ey serenaders.

      Oldham Family (Reunion - 30 August 1953)

      An Oldham family reunion was held Sunday, at the Raymond Kalsow home in honor of Mr. and Mrs. LaFayette Oldham and family of Ohio. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oldham and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Oldham and family, and their mother, Mrs. Emma Oldham.

      Also Mr. and Mrs. LaFayette Oldham and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hagedorn and family on Monday. On Tuesday they drove to Neenah to spend a day with Mr. and Mrs. William Oldham, and then will continue on to their home in Ohio.

      LaFayette I. Oldham, age 95, of Fremont died Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Parkview Care Center in Fremont.

      He was born in Clark County on July 12, 1908 to William and Emma (Boll) Oldham. A u.S. Army veteran of WW II, LaFayette worked as a carpenter and in maintenance at the Countryside Continuing Care Eenter in Fremont. He retired from Countryside in 1973.

      LaFayette married Ruth "Betty" Burkett on Nov. 22, 1945 in Fremont. A member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church in Fremont, he was also a former Treasurer for the Helena Volunteer Fire Department, serving there for 13 years.

      He is survived by his wife; daughters, Caroline Clink, of Perrysburg, and Julia Schwert, of Fremont; a son, Larry, of Pataskala, Ohio; brother Ray, of Neillsville; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great- grandchild; seven step great-grandchildren and one step-great- great-gr andson.

      He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Joe and Bill Oldham and sisters Daisy Rodman and Genevieve Kalsow.

      Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Fremont. Burial with Mili tary Rites were performed by the Fremont Posts of the American Legion a nd VFW at Metzgar Cemetery, Helena.

      Contractor raised own food on farm

      FREMONT, Ohio - LaFayette Oldham, a general contractor and World War II Ar my veteran, died of natural causes Sunday in Parkview Care Center, Fremont, where he lived two years.

      Mr. Oldham, 95, was raised on a farm in Wisconsin and moved to Ohio during World War II, when he was stationed at Camp Perry. While at Camp Perry, he met his wife, Ruth "Betty" Burkett of Fremont, at a dance in Port Clinton. They were married in 1945.

      Soon after, Mr. Oldham bought 20 acres near Helena, Ohio, 15 miles west of Fremont, where he built a house and a barn.

      "The only help he had was with the masonry work and the electrical. Everything else he did himself," said his son, Larry Oldham.

      The Oldhams lived a self-sufficient life, growing all their fruits and vegetables and raising cows for their dairy products and beef. Mr. Oldham made his living remodeling homes and selling and installing lightning rods, which he promoted at county fairs.

      "He was the type that was always a hard worker. That?s what kept him livi ng so long. He always had something to do," said his son.

      When Mr. Oldham's health prevented him from carrying on his business, he took a job in maintenance at Countryside Continuing Care Center, Fremont.

      He retired in 1973, and he and his wife began spending their winters in Florida. They bought a mobile home, moved to Fremont, and sold their farm 10 years ago, said Mr. Oldham's daughter, Julia Schwert.

      "He was a giving type of person. He was always wanting to help others," she said.

      Mr. Oldham served 13 years as treasurer of the Helena Volunteer Fire Department.

      Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Larry; daughters, Caroline Clink and Julia Schwert; brother, Ray; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren, and a step-great-great-grandchild.

      Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home, Fremont, where services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

      The family suggests tributes to the Helena Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of the donor's choice.

      Oldham, Erna (14 MAR 1908 - 18 MAY 1929)

      NEILLSVILLE, Clark Co., Wis. - The funeral services of Mrs. Lafayette Oldh am, who died at St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield on Saturday morning, were held at the Lutheran Church at Globe, Clark Co., at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Walter Motzkus, pastor of the Globe Lutheran Church, officiating. A short service at the Fred Glasow home preceded the church service. Interment took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

      Miss Erna Glasow, Mrs. Oldhham's maiden name, was born on March 14, 1908 in the town of Weston, Clark county, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasow. Miss Erna received her early education at the Fairview school near her home, and after completing her course at the rural school, she entered the Neillsville High School, from which she graduated in 1924. Miss Glasow specialized in the Teachers' Training department. For three years, she followed the profession of a rural school teacher, teaching for two years at the Wild Wood School in the town of Seif, and one year at the Silver Crest School in the town of Pine Valley.

      On June 6, 1927, Miss Glasow was united in marriage with Lafayette Oldham and the newlyweds went to housekeeping with the bride's parents in the town of Weston. Mrs. Oldham served the Globe Lutheran Church as organist during the past three years.

      Six weeks ago she became ill and after receiving the best of care for four weeks at home, the family decided to take her to the St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield where she would be in the care of specialists. After lingering for two weeks, she died as above stated at 6:15 Saturday morning and the remains were brought to the home in Weston to await burial.

      The Globe Church was only large enough to hold half of the friends who gathered to pay their last respects.

      Beautiful sprays and wreaths of flowers were sent or brought in from a host of friends as a tribute. Six girlfriends acted as flower girls. The following friends acted as pallbearers: William Lueck, Anton Meihak, Alvin Meihak, Marlin Schutte, John Schutte, and Alvin Wendt.

      Deceased leaves her husband, a mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasow, at home; two sisters, Verona, Mrs. Rudolph Fristche of Dorchester, and Elizabeth, Mrs. John Strangfeld of Pine Valley; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. August Beyer of Pine Valley.

      Those from out of the city attending the funeral were: Miss Minnie and Miss Margaret Beyer of Glencoe, Ill., Miss Ida Beyer of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Oldham, Jr. and daughter of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Moon ey of Kaukauna; Herman Fritsche, Mrs. Henry Fritsche, and Mr. And Mrs. Anton Ludwig of Dorchester; and Mrs. Herbert Voigt of Stetsonville.
