    Notes
    • Is Alex D. Oldham of New Hanover County, North Carolina a son of this family?

This could be part of the Glossop UK line judging from the names..... is it just a coincidence.

Aaron Tripp was a member of the Sandy Field Baptist Church in Orange County, North Carolina. He was a delegate to meetings of the Sandy Creek Baptist Association during the period 1835-1840. Elder Levi Andrews, George Andrews, Archibald Andrews were also delegates. (A History of Sandy Creek Baptist Association).

Orange County, North Carolina Deeds 1842-1844, page 310, records a indenture dated 8 Jan 1841 between Laban Andrews and Aaron Tripp for 90 acres of land on Hogpin Branch of Collins Creek and joining Thomas Cates, Thomas D. Oldham, and others. Aaron Tripp paid $130 for the land; the deed was witnessed by George W. Purefy and Thomas D. Oldam.

On 10 Jul 1841 Aaron Tripp sold this same 90 acres to Thomas D. Oldham for $110 (Orange Co North Carolina Deeds 1842-1844, page 470).

The will of Laban Andrews was proven in the May 1842 Term of the Orange County, North Carolina County Court. Elizabeth Tripp is named as one of the children and Aaron Tripp is identified as a son-in-law. (page 195, Ruth Herndon Shields, "Abstracts of Wills Recorded in Orange County, North Carolina, 1800-1850"; originally published in 1966 as Volume II, reprinted by the Genealogical Publishing Co, Baltimore, 1972 and 1979 as Abstracts of Wills of Orange County, North Carolina, 1752-1850).

On 12 Jun 1848, Aaron Tripp mortgaged to Thomas D. Oldam "my present crop of wheat, corn, oats, fodder" to secure debts to Wiatt Cates ($50) and David Andrews ($15). W. Thompson and Sidney Whitted were witnesses (Orange County, North Carolina Deeds, Vol 33, 1841-1850, page 58).

The 1850 US Census for Orange County, North Carolina lists Aaron Tripp as a carpenter: all members of the family were born in North Carolina according to this list.

On 15 Sep 1850, Aaron Tripp again mortgaged to Thomas D. Oldham his crops and three hogs to secure debts to Wyate Cates ($40), Cave Stroud ($30 ), and William Moore ($25). Thomas D. Faucette was the witness (Orange County, North Carolina Deeds, Vol 33, 1841-1850, page 359).

Aaron moved with his family from Orange County, North Carolina to Lincoln County, Tennessee between 1850 and 1852.

Aaron Tripp had died by the time of the 1870 US Census. Elizabeth was living with the family of her son J.W. Tripp in Franklin County, Tennessee.
