Thanks for the Oldham info which was very interesting. I don't think it is mine however I have read in a family book that Edward Oldham was with Washington at Valley Forge in 1775 but never able to document it. This sounds like it might have been the one there. I just returned from Salt Lake Research trip and I found our Edward's ancestor was a Quaker who lived in Chester Pennsylvania (b) abt 1680 in what was called Flintshire (probably Nottingham ) (m)#1 Susannah Few in 1704 in Chester a nd #2 Rachel Littler.

Absalom Oldham is shown as born in Cecil Cty MD and I discovered at that time it was possible that Cecil Cty was part of Pennsylvania and later moved down into MD...no documentation on that either.

I found Thomas listed in the Quaker (m) New Garden Monthly Meetings 974.8 13 J2b It showed his marriage in ye Township of Notingham in ye county of Chester and Province of Pensilvania to Rachell Littler of ye same place 3, 5m,1728 at a public meeting attended by Joshua Littler, Saml Littler, Mary Littler, Jno Littler and Susana Oldham, Mary Oldham, Thomas Oldham, Rachell Oldham and Thos. Oldham Junior. I also picked up the will of Rachel Oldham of E.Nottingham 5-23-1761....Dec13, 1762 leaving land to son, Simon Taylor, son Joshua Littler and the rest of to gr dau, Rachel, wife of Elisha Brown & Thomas Barrett to be divided. I also picked up the will of Robert Oldham of Nottinham (Joyener) and Thomas Oldham leaving his property to his wife and children.

Thanks for your info. Anyone that is interested in the above an contact me at wjholcombe@aol.com (Wilma) Jean Holcombe Los Angeles California *****************************************************

A lot of my info came on a chart from a lady in Washington State who is also researching both Thomas and William. She listed Edward Oldham as the 8 th child of Thomas (b)abt 1715 and (m)Mary Lane 29 May 1735. Edward's mother would have to be #1 wife Susannah Few of Chester who (d)1728. I also found a Edward Oldham (m)Mary who was (b)1709 Talbot MD (Film 014520) The re also is a younger Edward Oldham listed on the will of Edward Oldham 1833 who was a brother of Absalom. The executor was Edward's wife, Mary. (V ol 2 P538). There is a Edward S. Oldham GAR 1722 buried at Grove Cemetery, Pulaski Tnsp, Pennsylvania and a David Oldham GAR bd 7/11/1895 at Oak Grove, Freedom Pennsylvania. I don't know who these two are. This is about all I can tell you as I didn't delve into any more Quaker meetings (bei ng ill with flu in Salt Lake). Let me know if you find anything more solid. I picked up my husband's french ancestors records and trying to translate them currently. Jean Holcombe

      Hi Jan,
I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas Oldham, b 1680, Quaker, Philadelphia then Chester Co. Pennsylvania and Nottingham, who m. Susannah Few) had a son Edward because I find Edward living near them in Nottingham, and could not prove that ho anho was probably connected. Jean Heuman

The reson I'm writing is that Rob Chandler (rob2665@yahoo.com who's mother is my Aunt Bobbie (Bobbie3544@hotmail.com but not certain which one he is using at present. He has sent me two emails so far on the Oldhams, from below Edmund Oldham and Mary McDanel.

I located additional information on the Oldhams.
It looks like I now have the complete family of Edward Oldham and Mary McDanel.
The information appears to be copied from a bible hand writen by Julia Oldham (Absalom's sister) in 1871. Julia occupied the homestead of Edward Oldham and Mary McDanel after they both passed away in North Sewickley, Beaver Co, PA after Mary died in 1856. Julia is next door in the 1850 census record.

I have not located much on Robert Oldham of Wilmington, DE or Archibald McDanel They are probably buried at the Providence Church property in Beaver Co, PA
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      2nd email:
Looks like you helped solve who Julia McDanel and Joseph McDanel were in the 1850 census.

It did not occur to me that your Julia Oldham married a McDanel. Not sure how Joseph McDanel (1811) was related to Mary Mc Danel (1769-Julia's mother). It
was not uncommon to mary a cousin or second cousin. They were 42 years apart. Possibly Mary's father was Joseph's grandfather? Mary was Joseph's aunt?
Do you know the relationship of Joseph McDanel to Archibald and Mary?

Joseph McDanel now occupies old homestead at Beaver Co. Pa. this March 1871 matches the 1850 census record. Mary was living next to Joseph McDanel.

After Mary died, they took over the homestead. Several were buried at Providence Church in Beaver PA, prior to Edwards or Mary's death. I will have to
check to see if there is any records when I get a chance.

It would appear that Julia wrote the document in 1871. I am decended thru Absolem, who had a son Mejimcy Oldham. He has a very distinguished/impressive grave site in Taylor, Loop Co, NE. I have attached a copy.

It would probably be best to take a digital photo of the old document, rather than try to photo copy it. Dont know if you have a digital camera. I often use a
digital camera when researching. It is very easy to take a reference book, take a quick copy, then place it back on the shelf.

      Where do you live?
I live in Southern California. I often travel to other states as part of my job. When I get a chance, I do geneology side trips.
Thanks again - You have been a great help.
Still wonder who has the original bible or if it still exists?
      Your distant cousin,
      Rob

So, looked up your tree on worldconnect at rootsweb.com <http://rootsweb.com>
and you had this of Edward Oldham:
      ID: I29344
      Name: Mary SEARCHING or MCDANEL
      Sex: F
      Birth: in Pennsylvania
      Death: 1856
Marriage 1 Edward OLDHAM b: ABT 1715 in Possibly England
Married: 16 APR 1789 in New Castle, Delaware
      Children:

      2] Margaret OLDHAM
      3] Rachel OLDHAM
      4] Edward OLDHAM
5] Sarah OLDHAM b: 9 JAN 1809 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania
      6] Rebecah OLDHAM (Rebecca)
      7] Matilda OLDHAM***
      8] Julia OLDHAM

According to Edgar MacArthur, 1 April 1799, Edward was born. this narrows it down because he has:
Mary unaccounted for in 25 Oct, 1795
Elizabeth born and died in 1798, both would be Cecil Co, MD.
      You found Hannah, b. 25 Mar 1804
unaccounted for is Archibold b. 30 Jun, 1806
Matilda OLDHAM*** were does she fit in at? and the above of Hannah & Archibold must been born in Cecil co., MD for she listed Sarah as the first born in Beaver County, PA in 1809.
      Edward's Father was Edward
Father & Mother of Edward Oldham:
Father: Thomas OLDHAM b: ABT 1680 in Flintshire, Clwyd/Calverton, Nottingham, Wales

Edward Oldham Sr. had three brothers viz Robert, Jeremiah & William
three sisters viz Hannah Betsey & Margarette. Hannah married Empson of Kentucky. Betsy or Eliza. married 1st Smith 2nd time Jacobs Margarette married Anderson.
None of the brothers married but Edward.
      ......
There was a Hannah Oldham who married in Cecil Co, MD on 3 Jul 1792 a Cornelius Empson according to online search records. Cornelius died 27 May 1808 in Jessamine Co, Kentucky (same as claimed)
The will of Edward Oldham in 1833:
Edward Oldham (d)1833 Beaver Co PA New Sewickley Co. PA wife named Mary, made guardian of children 1838 Vol 2 P 538
      Children:
      Absalom,
      Margaret (Robinson),
      Rachel (Johnson),
      Sarah (Jones) ,
      Edward,
      Julia (Hughes)
Many of the other children died young. The person who wrote the information was Julia Hughes Oldham who was in her 60's in 1870 when the letter was written. Also the details about Absalom is correct. He died in Jennings County where he was living in the 1860 census. He was buried in Flat Rock, Ripley County, In.

All the last names are correct, and so far I have not located any information that is incorrect. One problem with Delaware or Pensylvania is that this is dutch country. Alot of the records are absent because most of the cities did not document births. Only records are from church, property, town records, probabe, cemetary records and old family bible records. Marriage records were not always recorded except within the church.

I tend to beleive the the story/records are true, even though no one has documented this before. Why would it be fabricated? Perhaps this is the only hand written
record since the original bible is lost?

I would like to find out more about Robert Oldham to see if a probate record could be found. This would document the remaining children claimed in the letter.
Perhaps his wife survived, whose name would be mentioned in the records.
      Rob
PS-he used a link I had for a Patent Search that I got from a local genealogy place here link is: www.glorecords.blm.gov/PantentSearch and it can't be used for the original 13 colonies. He sebt the Patent for Absolom Oldham in Ripley, IN and Cornelius Durant in both IN & IL. It comes as a Adobe Reader document(.pdf) but Adobe 8 can place it in an email.

Anyhow, you have a Matilda Oldham which I can't fathom unless she was Mary that I cannot account for that was born 25 Oct, 1795 which means she was bn. in Cecil County, MD. I liked the way you set up their names, as bn in MD or later, in PA. If that is the case, then there is only four year gap between the 2 listings rather then a 10 year gap.
