Hi Jan I am posting info (if I learn how) to prove that the spou se of Chloe Ann Oldham was NOT ELIJAH. His birth name was ELISHA. His brother Elijah marr ied Sallie Dodson and followed their parents to No Carolina and then to Tennesse Elisha used his correct name only a few times. Incidentally, my moth er was one who helped get the name incorrectly in print. She was part of the to be publ ication with the bible record. Speaking of the bible--- it has the name James MATICON Dods on in error. It is James MADISON Dodson and he is my direct line.

If we go to the court records of Pittsylvania Co for 1785 (Aug) we find li sted as defendants in a peace bond suit DANIEL DODSON, ELISHA DODSON, ELIJAH DODSON , JAMES OLDHAM , JOHN OLDHAM AND OTHERS. In Sept the settlement only has Eli a nd Daniel Dodson. This does show contact between these particular families of Dods on and Oldham that I believe are the parents of Elisha Dodson and Chloe Ann Oldham.

In the taxes for Henry Co. Daniel paid taxes in 1787 for himself and E li both over 21 and for 1 white mail 16-21. In 1788 Daniel is taxed for 2 white males over 16 a nd Eli is taxed separately for 1 white male over 16. In 1789 Daniel is taxed for 1 whi te poll, Eli is taxed for 1 white poll and Elijah is taxed for 1 white poll. Thus, Elijah appea rs to be the male taxed with Daniel in 1788.

From 1789 to 1792 Daniel, Eli, Elijah all appear separately on the roll s. It appears that Elisha has taken the name ELI. In 1793 only Elijah is on the roll s. In 1794 all are gone.
In 1797 Daniel purchased land in Rockingham Co. North Carolina (may be before). Elijah and another son followed him to North Carolina Daniel died in 1810. Eli jah and wife Sallie moved on to Tennessee as shown by the census .ivneo rge was born in Davidson Co. He died in Humphreis Co. Tenn in 1845.

To continue with Elisha. I do not find him in Va. after 1792, althou gh he may be in a different county. Most then take Eli Dodsson in Scott Co. Ky in 180 2. However, in a small obscure tax list for Fayette Co. Ky for the year 1796 the name ELIS HA DODSON appears with 1 male over 21. There is no 1797 tax book available. The 17 98 tax book taxes ELI DODSON on the same property. From there on he uses the name EL I. Because he named a son Elijah many have tried to say his name was Elijah and th is is Elijah Jr. NOT SO. An aunt was descended fom Elijah and wanted him to be a Jr. B UT HE IS NOT.

I think that is ample proof that his name is correctly ELISHA DODSO N. My guess is back as kids he took the name Eli to better distinguish when some one called hi m. Elisha married Chloe Ann Oldham. That name is very hard to find as a child. I belie ve that I have the info to show that Chloe Ann is the daughter of John Oldham, Jr. and Elizabeth C ox even thou her name does not appear in the will of Elizabeth Cox Oldham . Chloe Ann lis ts her age as 82 in the Kentucky census for 1850. That makes her birth dat as 1768 and n ot 1770 as widely published. That so called bible record created several known errors. F amilies do make mistakes in recording things.

Please contact me after you have had time to look this info over. I ha ve more that needs to be published when I find the time and place.

      Personal regards Vern

Jan I have read your comments in the message section. May I bend yo ur ear a minute? I am trying to locate Chloe Ann Oldham Dodson. She was born 1768 per cen sus of Ky. 1850. She married Eli (Elisha ) Dodson in Va. In 1785 Elisha, Elijah and Daniel Dodson along with James and John Oldham were in court in Henry Co. Va. Daniel was father of Elisha and Elijah. Some sort of disturbance against a neighbor. Young people problems I gue ss. In the Pitt. Co tax rolls Elisha and Elijah turn of age to be listed alone and not under Daniel (1787-89). John Oldham on Home creek , Henry co, from about 1782 to about 1792 wheen John dies. His wife was Elizabeth Cox and his mother was Mary (Dodson?). I have seen the will of Elizabeth about 1837 in Henry Co. She does not mention James or John, but there are others she did not mention, she just said she didn't account for the dead. I think she assumed that they were dead since some of her children had been gone a long time. Elisha Dodson with Chloe left Henry Co. about 1792 - 95 and show up in Fayette Co. Ky about 1796 in the tax rolls. There were with them James a nd John OLdham. All of them, Eli, Chloe Dodson and James and John Oldham a ll show birthdates of the right time in Ky to match the ones from Henry Co an d they all state they were born in Va. I believe James, John and Chloe ar e children of John and Elizabeth Oldham who came from Northumberland to Henr y co about 1768. Any help in this area would be appreciated. I have never found the na me of Chloe Oldham mentioned in Va. Maybe she went by Anne as a child. Thanx for listening. I have much info on John and Elizabeth Cox Oldham. Vern
