      My 3rd great grandfather, Richard Oldham, was the brother of Robert Oldham. They lived in Smith Co. TN but later the name of the Co. was changed to Wilson Co.

      Richard Oldham was born on November 27, 1828 in Smith Co. TN., married Nancy Deliah Porter on Oct. 16, 1851 and he died on Nov. 14, 1918 in Porterville, CA.

      They had the following children: Sarah Jane, born Sept. 20, 1852 - married John T. Jopling on May 23, 18 78 and she died on Dec. 19, 1932.

      William Samuel born June 15, 1854 married Dosia Johnson on May 25, 188 7. He died on Nov. 9, 1938.

      John Sloan born March 25, 1856 married Ella Hines on Dec. 6, 1882. He di ed in Lebanon, TN in August 1887.

      Richard Porter Oldham born June 25, 1858 married Bettie Britton. He di ed on March 20, 1889.

      Mary Susan Oldham (my gg grandmother) born Jan. 25, 1860. Married Andr Eschew Johnson. She died in 1890.

      James Smith Oldham born Sept. 23, 1864. Married Mary E. O'Donnell on Sep t. 12, 1901.

      Nannie Lee Oldham born Aug. 27, 1871. Married Edward Sims on April 15, 18 97. She died in Porterville, CA.

      I have a picture of my 3rd great grandfather just before his death in 19 18 holding my aunt, Margaret, who was born in 1912. Margaret is still alive and has fo nd memories of the Oldham family.

      Relationship to William Arnett: Dick Oldham bought the William Arnett farm(s) in 1853.

      A George Oldham is listed as being on jury duty with William Arnett twice in November 1815. George W. Oldham was Richard Oldham's grandfather. Richard Oldham's wife, Nancy Delia Porter, is William and Rosa Porter Arnett's niece. Nancy Delia Porter grew up on her father's [William Porter] farm which was next to the William and Rosa Porter Arnett farm. Richard Oldham sells the Arnett farm(s) to William Porter in 1856.

      1853 Land Deed

      I William Arnett do hereby in accordance with a bond heretofore given me for that purpose transfer and convey to Dick Oldham and his heirs forever for the consideration of four hundred and six dollars to me paid thru several tractsythe first beginning on a beech marked W A in Peytons west boundary line running thence west with the said line one hundred twenty six and a half poles to a bunch of locus wood. Thence north one hundred and twenty six and a half poles to a [line?]. Thence east one hundred and twenty six and a half poles to a stake. Thence south one hundred and twenty-six and a half poles to the beginning. Containing one hundred acres also one other tract or survey containing thirty two acres and beginning on the same [creek? beech?]. Beginning thence west 93 poles to a stake in Andersan's line. Thence south with Andersan's line 54 poles to a sugartree in said Arnett's line of another tract or survey. Thence east ninety-five poles to a beech William Porter's corner. Thence North fifty-five poles to the beginning. Also one other survey containing thirty-seven and one-half acres bounded as follows: Beginning on a [birch? beech?] and Black walnut and on the East boundary of a tract of land claimed by the heirs of Francis Parker and running thence East fifty-five poles to a beech-birch and dogwood. Thence North one hundred and nine poles to a dogwood and two beeches thence West fifty-five poles to a stake in the above mentioned old line. Thence South with the said old line to the beginning. To have and to hold the same to the said Dick Oldham, his heirs, and assigns forever. I do covenant with the said Dick Oldham that I am lawfully seized of said land have a good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself, my heirs and representatives. To warrant and forever defend the title to the said land and every part thereof to the said Dick Oldham his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever this 1st day of January 1853.

      I Richard Oldham do hereby transfer and convey to Wm Porter and his heirs forever for the consideration of Eight Hundred and Twenty-five dollars to me paid the several tracts of land all in the State of Tennessee and County of Smith D]gch marked W A [Transcribers's note: the original 1856 deed has a "W" and an upside down "V", but this same tree is marked W A in two previous deeds] on Peyton's West boundary line running thence west with said line one hundred and twenty-six and a half poles to a bunch of [sour?] woods thence north one-hundred and twenty-six and a half poles to a ________ Thence East one hundred and twenty-six and a half poles to a stake Thence south one hundred and twenty-six and a half poles to the beginning. Containing one hundred acres. Also one other tract or survey containing thirty-two acres and beginning on the same birch running thence west ninety-three poles to a stake in Andersan's line. Thence south with Andersan's line fifty-four poles to a sugartree in said Arnett's line of another tract or survey. Thence East ninety-five poles to a birch William Porter's corner. Thence north fifty-four poles to the beginning. Also one other survey containing thirty-seven and a half acres.       hundred and nine poles to a Dagwood and two birches thence west fifty-five poles to a stake in the above mentioned old line thence south with the said old line to the beginning. To have the above land to hold the same to the said William Porter that I am lawfully _______ of said land have a good right to convey it and that the _______ is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs and ________ to warrant and forever defend the title to the said land _____ _____ _____ thereof to the said William Porter his heirs and ________ against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever this the 22nd day of December 1856.

      Richard Oldham's grandparents: George W. and Celia Jane Sutherland Oldham.

      George W. Oldham was born about 1783 in VA

      Celia was born about 1784 in VA.

      George Oldham is listed as being on jury duty with William Arnett twice in November 1815.

      George W. Oldham lived on Peyton's Creek beginning about 1805 ? two miles south of Pleasant Shade.

      In 1825 Hopkins Richardson sold George W. Oldham land.

      Thank you so much for the documentation. I'm still trying to link George and Celia Sutherland Oldham into the Virginia lines - once I can do that, then I'll know my connection to them. My husband's line is from Northern Neck Virginia and my line is from New England.
