      James spent his early childhood days on the family homestead near Pur dum, Nebraska, moving with his parents to Brewster in about 1900. He w as the only child of Edward and Elizabeth, but was raised with five half b rothers and sisters,msage.
      During his younger years he hunted game which he sold to the Palmer H ouse in Chicago, Illinois and at one time carried the mail on horsebakc du ring winter months when mail wagons could not get through.
      In about 1907-8 "Jim" went to Joliet, Illiois and made his home wi th Wade Brady. Mr. Brady, being a master mechanic in the steel mills, sec ured a job for Jim at the mill. He later worked for a time as a fireman w ith a railroad.
      On December 25, 1900, Jim was united in marriage to Minnie Bell Nels on at DuPage County, Illinois. Minnie Bell Nelson as born 15 January 18 86 at Joliet, Illinois the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Nelson.
      After their marriage, Jim and Minnie lived at Springfield, Illinois f or a time and later at Gary, Indiana and DuPage Co. Illinois, where Jim wo rked for a cattleman. In 1914 and 15 he worked for Boughton Farms in Wi ll County, Illinoisghemselv es near Plato Center, Illinois and were very successful in this operati on and remained there for a period of nine years.
      In about 1924 they moved to Lisle, Illinois where Jim managed Beinrid ge Farms. In 1925 they moved to Eligin, Illinois, where he worked selli ng cattle for Kenyon and Sons. Later Jim worked as a foreman with a lar ge construction companys manage r. It was during this time that Minnie Bell Oldham passed away on 1 Apr 1 930 at the age of 44 years. Burial was at the Cass Memorial Cemetery, Joi let, Illinois.
      Jim and Minnie were the parents of five children: Clarence Edward, R uth Fanchlon, James Wilbur, Marjorico Ellen and Margaret Elaine, the lat er dying in infance.
      After Mrs. Oldham's death, Mr. Oldham went to Downer's Grove, Illino is where he bought a tavern, later selling it and buying another in Naperv ille, Illinois.
      Jim Oldham was married in about 1940 to Mrs. Jessie ( Rohr) Mil es in the state of Iowa and they operated the Naperville Tavern until t he time of Mr. Oldham's death which occured June 3, 1942 at Aurora, Illino is. Burial was at the Napervd to o perate the tavern for a time after her husband's death, but later sold i t. She passed away 4 Dec 1965 at the DuPage County Convalescent Home in W heaton, Illinois. Burial was at Naperville.
