    Notes 
    • Joined General Brice's Command of the Confederate army in the late civil war and fought for the South and was made a prisoner of war. Was a teacher, farmer, high sheriff and collector and in 1882, he located in Salisbury where he was engaged in the real estate business and also as a merchant. In 1889, he organized The People's Bank, of which he was elected Cashier, which position he was holding when Mr. Paxton's book was printed.
