      Connersville (Fayette County, Indiana) Daily News Nov 28 1900

      S. A. Oldham, son of George W. and Emeline Oldham, was born April 11, 186 7; died November 23, 1900, aged 33 years, 7 months, and 12 days. He was a twin brother of Jesse. His mother died when he was but 7 years of age. He leaves a wife, father, step-mother, four brothers, two sisters, many other relatives - and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn their loss; but we mourn and as those who have no hope. He joined the Christian church of Springersville in the spring of 1892, during the pastorate of Elder Brickert, and was an active Sunday school and church worker as long as his health permitted, he having been in poor health for the past three or four years. He was married on the 21st day of August, 1892, to Miss Emma Kinder, of Lyons Station, Indiana. They never had any children. He was a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, at Lyons Station, Indiana and had filled most of the important offices of the order at various times. Vess, as he was familiarly called, was of a genial disposition, and although a constant sufferer for the past year, always had a kind word and a pleasant smile for all those with whom he associated. He was energetic, industrious, honorable and well respected by every body.

      A dear one from us is gone,
      A voice we loved is still;
      But peace and joy alone is found
      In obedience to God's divine will.

      The funeral services were conducted at the New Bethel Baptist church, and the body laid to rest in the Union cemetery, near Lyons Station. Elder Arthur Hackleman preached the discourse, assisted by Elder O. H. Williams. The P.O. S. of A. attended in a body and officiated at the grave.
