    Notes
    • Prichard History 1915 - Eldest son of James & Elizabeth Hughes Prichard, w as born in Baltimore County, MD. He was a man of large means. His name a ppears on the records of many counties in Kentucky and Indiana as ear ly as 1811. He bought of his father, James Prichard, 180 acres of la nd in Henry County, Kentucky in 1811; purchased 160 acres in Madison Count y, Kentucky of Cyrus Tevis. In 1813 a tract of one thousand acres was tr ansferred to Daniel Prichard and others. In 1822 a deed records the trans fer of lots in Columbus, Indiana from Luke Bonestell to Daniel Prichar d. A quarter section of land near Jeffersonville, Indiana was purchas ed as shown by the register of the land office signed by President James M onroe. One certificate of the register of the land office at Indianapoli s, Marion County, Indiana for eighty acres, is signed by President Jo hn Q. Adams, late in 1826. Another certificate for 80 acres dated 18 30 is signed by Andrew Jackson.
Daniel Prichard entered more than 1,200 acres of land in Johnson Coun ty, Indiana, eighty acres being the heart of the tract occupied by the ci ty of Franklin, Indiana, extending from Main street east to Yandes Stree t, north; from Wayneteeach of h is nine children a farm of 135 acres, Daniel Prichard was a slave hold er as shown by bills of sale now in the possession of a grandson, Hen ry R. Prichard. He was noted for being a man of very fine judgemen t, so much so that early settlers would ask him to choose land for the m. He was strictly temperate, could not endure men of littleness; was fre e-hearted almost to a fault, a trait which all of the older men of the Pri chard name possessed.

Judge William Keaton with his family was moving from Kentucky to Ind iana. He reached the home of Curtis Prichard, a brother of Daniel, whe re they remained all night. The next morning when they were ready to resu me their journey Curtim
arter of beef; Louis another brothe r, gave them a load of corn, and Daniel, a cow and calf. If such a thi ng was done today we would say the men had lost their minds. Another sto ry is told of a man moving from Kentucky to Indiana. He stopped at Dani el Prichard's and asked if he could get a load of corn, following the requ est with the remark that he had the money to pay for it. Daniell said: " If you have the money for it go over to neighbor--------, as he has the co rn to sell for the money. I have to save mine for those that have no mon ey but must buy on time."
In January 1823, Daniel Prichard with his family crossed the Ohio Riv er on on the ice. He first settled in Blue River township, west of Edinbu rgh, Indiana near the forks of the Blue River and Sugar Creek. On accou nt of suffering so mucee year, when he mov ed to Nineveh Township, a mile and half north of the beautiful little vill age of Nineveh, where he remained until 1852, when with his wife and daugh ter, Matilda, and a married son , Allen, with family of four children he m oved to Jasper County, Indiana near Rensselaer, Indiana.
