I haven't heard much about Phillip until I started this tree. But I was told that an aunt (older)than Mom & Dad picked out my name & this is who it was after. I have found through records that he was a civil war vet wounded twice.
He also owned a nice house & farm on Buffalo Church Rd now called the Bowyer Place now. It is still there. the Bowyer's added on to it. Located about a half mile from Buffalo Presbyterian Church. He gave it to his daughter so he could sign up for his military pension from the civil war. He had become unable to farm it himself.
After his death he lost two grandsons in a freak train wreck. The trestle across Deep River at Cumknoch fell in as the train they were working on crossed on 6 June 1913. Then on 30 Apr 1924 he lost a daughter, son-in-law, grandson, & great grandson all in a tornado at Pace's Mill close to Bynum in Chatham County.
